German authorities described the conditions of the landing as “unprecedented” as powerful 155mph winds battered the Lufthansa plane.
The pilot, named as “Oliver A.”, had to be at his best to control the ailing aircraft as it skidded across the runway, slightly touching the runway.
The attempt to land was aborted and the pilot was quick to blast the plane’s engines to full force to lift off again. The pilot circled the runway and was successful in safely landing at the second attempt.
“Those few seconds were indescribable,” one passenger told German television station N-TV after arriving safely on the ground.
