Cultural Map of the World - Including Singapore
Inglehart-Welzel Cultural Map of the World - including Singapore

Traditional - Secular-Rational Values Vs Survival - Self Expression Values
This is based on the World Value Survey which included Singapore but the relevant info was not depicted in their published values map. I found the Singapore results here.
Singapore:
Traditional/Se-cular-rational Values: -.06
Survival/Self-expression Values: -0.16
This puts it very close to Vietnam on the map.
Piotr Wozniak: How to Become a Genius
Want to Remember Everything You’ll Ever Learn?
- You must clarify your goals,
- gain knowledge through spaced repetition,
- preserve health,
- work steadily,
- minimize stress,
- refuse interruption, and
- never resist sleep when tired.
This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity.
The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.
Randy Pausch’s Time Log Sheet
In Randy Pausch’s recent lecture on Time Management (yes the one after his Last Lecture) he recommends using a time log to track how you use your time.
There isn’t a suitable download of the sheet on his site so I’ve rebuilt it here:
- Time Log Sheet - PDF (starts at 7am)
- Time Log Sheet - Excel - choose your own starting time.
Bottled water ‘is immoral’
File this under “Things I’ve Been Wrong About.”
A UK government advisor has stated that “Drinking bottled water should be made as unfashionable as smoking.”
- a litre bottle of Evian or Volvic generates up to 600 times more CO2 than a litre of tap water
- drinking a bottle of water has the same impact on the environment as driving a car for a kilometre
I still have a hard time with the idea of drinking tap water when the taste of chlorine is so overpowering… but they have a point.
